RCW 9.41.041, HB 1562

HB 1562, previously discussed in this blog post has been officially codified as RCW 9.41.041. As previously discussed on this blog, HB 1562 made significant changes to the process for restoring firearm rights in Washington state.

Although HB 1562 took effect on 7/23/23, the session law hadn’t actually been codified in the Revised Code of Washington until just recently. It is now codified as RCW 9.41.041.

Moving forward, instead of citing HB 1562 on court paperwork, RCW 9.41.041 should now be cited instead.

What is the purpose of RCW 9.41.041?

RCW 9.41.041 is a codification of HB 1562, the 2023 session law that changed the rules for restoring firearm rights in Washington state.

What should I know about RCW 9.41.041?

As stated in this blog post, RCW 9.41.041 is a change in the law about restoring firearm rights. However, it is not the only way to restore firearm rights in Washington. If the new changes in RCW 9.41.041 are detrimental, it is possible to proceed under the old rules, RCW 9.41.040. This can be beneficial in many ways.
